“These women are a lot like dragonflies… they are born into water, have to learn to fly on their own, they are graceful yet fighters, and are as beautiful as ever. This is what I believe all of the women in need of these shelters are.” – Kourtney Beckman (Fund Development Manager at the Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region.)
Today; Sunday, March 4th 2017 my family and I had the greatest honour of attending the Terrific Tables Wonderful Women event. It was one of the coolest events ever! Upon arriving we had to decorate tables, my family chose a Canadian theme. There were some incredible tables, there was a table dedicated to Princess Leia and everyone was dressed up like her, there was a medieval times table and all I can say is wow there was some serious effort put into each and every table!
The event officially began at 1:30 with the lovely Jennifer Campbell of Country 106.7, 96.7 CHYM FM, and 570 News. She gave a very warm introduction and said some extremely sweet words about myself and Bardish Chagger. Bardish was honestly one of the nicest ladies I’ve ever met, she is a Member of Parliament for Waterloo, and a leader of Government in the House of Commons and Minister of Small Business and Tourism. Seriously an impressive woman, I cannot wait to connect with her in the future. Then there was food and stand up comedians, a silent auction, really it was an amazing day all around.
At the end of the night, I got a change to meet Helen Jowett who is the Regional Councillor for the Waterloo Region. And the CEO of the Women’s Crisis Services Mary Zilney. I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know it’s going to be incredible.
If you don’t already know, my platform is to end violence against women and working with the Women’s Crisis Services is helping me bring my platform to life. If you want to help be a part of the change or follow any of these amazing women the links are down below!
